Senior Carer Pay Rates — What You Can Earn
Senior carer hourly rates with Advantage Angels start at £17.00 and rise to £23.00 with enhancements — well above the £13–£15 typical of permanent senior care assistant posts. Rates vary by location, setting and shift.
What Does a Senior Carer Do?
A Senior Carer does everything a Healthcare Assistant does, then takes on the responsibility of leading the shift, administering medication and supporting less experienced colleagues. These are the duties and requirements for senior carer jobs across our care home and nursing home clients.
Why Work Senior Carer Jobs Through an Agency?
A permanent senior post ties you to one rota, one team and one pay band. Agency senior carer work does the opposite — you pick the shifts, you are paid a premium for taking them, and you build experience across several services at once.
Advantage Angels is a specialist healthcare staffing agency so you deal with a named consultant who knows your certificates, your travel range and what you want next.
- You choose every shift — no fixed rota, no minimum commitment
- Agency rates above the permanent senior care assistant market
- Try several care homes before committing to a permanent role
- Compliance, DBS, uniform and training handled and paid for by us
- Out-of-hours team on 07508 997 877 seven days a week
Stepping Up From Carer to Senior Carer
If you have been working as a Healthcare Assistant for a year or more and you are already the person colleagues turn to on shift, senior carer jobs are the natural next step.
Agency shifts let you take on that responsibility across several different services, which builds experience far faster than a single permanent post — and it is exactly what care providers look for when they recruit team leaders and deputy managers.
- Medication training funded by us if you need to refresh it
- Experience across residential, nursing and supported living settings
- Shift-lead responsibility from your first placement
- A named consultant who knows your goals and matches you accordingly
- Permanent senior and team leader roles shared with you first
